French I is an introductory course designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of the French language and culture. This course will allow students to acquire the tools necessary for communication and comprehension of the French language. Students explore the global francophone community, and they compare these different cultures to each other and to their own. This course primes students’ fluency through various types of communications. Students who complete French I Sem 1 & 2 can consider enrolling into HS French II in 9th grade, district discretion.
NOTE: Completing Semester 1 & 2 of French I A is the equivalent of completing 1 High School semester of French 1.

They learn to state daily activities and how to have an introductory conversation. These concepts build in theme and scope, allowing students to explore topics including daily activities, travel, needs, desires, and preferences in typical and increasingly complex situations. The course provides a realistic context in which students can practice their newly acquired skills. German I also provides a considerably thorough study of grammatical skills, ranging from the most basic sentences to engaging and creative structures dealing with more interesting situations. Students who complete German I Sem 1 & 2 can consider enrolling into HS German II in 9th grade, district discretion.

The Introduction to Foreign Language course is geared toward students who are interested in taking a foreign language course, but are not sure in which language they would like to begin their studies. In semester 1 of this course, students explore French and Spanish. The 2nd semester continues the exploration of Spanish and also provides an introduction to German. Students explore the culture and other important dynamics associated with each language. Students learn the basic vocabulary and structures of the languages in ways that are fun and educational.
You will learn to ask for directions, order food in a restaurant, and talk about the weather, all without being embarrassed by your accents. New words and phrases are introduced with text, pictures, and audio clips that demonstrate proper pronunciation. Acquire skills to read, write, and speak basic Spanish. You will also learn the basic Spanish grammar that will make your sentences come out right.
