In addition, the trend towards home schooling is on the rise.  While home schooling enrollment in the state has fluctuated over the past few years, enrollment is up from 15,802 in 1996-97 to 20,323 in the past school year (according to the Wisconsin Department of instruction).  Furthermore, the WDPI reports that in the 2005-06 school year, students at the high school level accounted for nearly one-third (32%) of all home-schooled students.
