American
Literature S1 - 0.5 credit
In this course students will be reading and interacting with various works from
the American literary canon in order to develop an understanding of how
literature can reflect the characteristics of a nation. The course takes a
chronological approach to the study of American literature. As students read,
they will be asked to reflect on the literary pieces in a variety of ways, think
critically about the themes brought to light by the works read, and consider how
these themes impact the world students live in today. In essence, the goal of
this course is to help bridge the gap of relevance between American literature
from all periods and the life students live today.
The first semester of this course will cover the periods from approximately the
1500's to The American Revolution to Present Day.
